Embracing the Energy of Ch’ang-O: September’s Moon Goddess

As we step into September, the energy of Ch’ang-O, the beautiful and gentle Chinese Moon Goddess, graces us with her presence. Ch’ang-O, known as the ‘Woman of the Moon,’ lives on the moon and brings a serene yet powerful energy that can guide and support you through this month.

The Legend of Ch’ang-O

Ch’ang-O’s story is one of love, sacrifice, and transformation. According to Chinese mythology, Ch’ang-O and her husband Houyi were once immortals living in the palace of heaven. However, they displeased the Jade Emperor and were banished to live as mortals on earth. Houyi, seeing his beloved wife’s misery, embarked on a quest to find the pill of immortality. Upon his return, he instructed Ch’ang-O not to touch the pill. Driven by curiosity, Ch’ang-O consumed the entire pill, which caused her to float up to the moon, where she has remained ever since.

On the moon, Ch’ang-O befriended the Jade Rabbit, with whom she has been mixing elixirs for over 4,000 years. This myth highlights her deep longing for love and connection, a theme that resonates with many of us.

Weaving Ch’ang-O’s Energy Through September

Ch’ang-O’s energy is especially potent during the Mid-Autumn or ‘Mooncake’ Festival, a time when families gather to celebrate the harvest and the beauty of the full moon. This month, Ch’ang-O invites you to learn to receive love in deeper, more lasting ways.

Ch’ang-O’s Mantra: "I am learning to receive love with grace, harmony, and even flow."

Repeat this mantra daily to align yourself with Ch’ang-O’s gentle energy, opening your heart to the love and support around you.

Her Crystal: Jade – Known for its properties of deep wisdom, increasing love, and bringing an extra sprinkle of luck. Carry a piece of jade with you to keep Ch’ang-O’s energy close.

Her Totems:

  • Mooncakes: Share these delicious treats with loved ones to honour the Mid-Autumn Festival and strengthen your bonds.

  • Lanterns: Write your wishes and dreams on lanterns and release them, symbolizing your intentions being carried to Ch’ang-O.

Her Exercise:

  • Bushwalking and Forest Bathing: Immerse yourself in nature, collecting herbs and soaking in the serenity. This practice helps ground you and connects you to the earth’s natural rhythms.

Her Scents:

  • Herbaceous Aromas: Incorporate scents like basil, thyme, lemon balm, rosemary, oregano, and coriander into your daily routine. These smells will help you attune to Ch’ang-O’s nurturing energy.

Embrace Ch’ang-O’s Support

This September let Ch’ang-O’s energy guide you in receiving love with grace and harmony. As you honour her through rituals and practices, you’ll find yourself more open to the love and support that surrounds you.
